The Clonakilty Blackpudding Visitor Experience
Due to open in early Spring 2020. The vision for the centre is to immerse visitors in the history and tradition of Clonakilty Blackpudding, to offer them an opportunity to see how it’s made, and to highlight the company’s pride in the town it originates from.
This brand new visitor attraction features a shop, exhibition, factory viewing gallery, and tasting area.
The exhibition area is themed on some of the famous Clonakilty shopfronts and tells the story of blackpudding through the ages, starting with its place in ancient times told through animations at the book shop.
Moving on to the market place visitors can learn about blackpudding around the world before meeting the village grocer who talks about the guardians of the famous recipe.
Visitors then meet the local butcher in the recreated 1980s Twomey’s butcher shop and back kitchen. There are many references to the 1980s along the way for the nostalgic also. Visitors finish their visit with an overview of how Clonakilty Blackpudding is made in a viewing gallery overlooking the mixing and cooking area before given the opportunity to sample the product.
